1. What is the difference between the two models?
XPM-1080RN is the hot-knife film laminating machine in sheet format; XPM-1100J is the roll-to-roll configuration. Format is confirmed at order, since the same hot-knife principle is built in both. The deciding question is not speed but whether a cutting knife exists downstream — that determines whether you need sheet or roll format.
2. What is a hot knife used for?
It cuts and seals the laminated sheet in one operation, producing a clean edge without loose film. This matters for board-based packaging and for short-run work where a separate cutting step would add handling.
3. Which substrates can be processed?
Paper, board and printed sheets with film, within the machine's thickness and format range. The combination of substrate and film adhesive must be qualified: the machine applies heat and pressure, it does not change the adhesive's compatibility.
4. Why choose hot knife lamination instead of solventless?
They solve different problems. Hot knife is for sheet-fed, lower-volume decorative or protective lamination; solventless is for high-volume flexible packaging structures. Comparing them on price per machine is meaningless — the output and the product are different.
5. How is temperature and pressure controlled?
Through controlled heating of the knife and adjustable nip pressure, with the settings recorded per substrate and film combination. Temperature too low gives poor bond; too high marks the surface or curls the sheet.
6. What are the maintenance points?
Knife condition, heater element, nip roller cleanliness and drive belts. A dull knife produces a ragged edge that looks like a lamination defect, so knife inspection belongs in the routine, not in the breakdown list.
7. What is the typical site requirement?
Stable power supply, level floor and sufficient space for sheet handling at both ends. For sheet-fed machines the handling space is often underestimated and becomes the real constraint on output.
