Outdoor Withdrawable Fix Type Vacuum Circuit Breaker

2026-10-08 11:28 XIAOPAI

Most buyers shortlist an outdoor withdrawable fix type vacuum circuit breaker by its voltage and its breaking capacity, and both numbers are the easy part. The number that decides whether the unit earns its place in the switchgear happens the first time someone has to pull it out of the cubicle under load.

The question is about the withdrawable fixed type, and it is the reason a substation engineer reads the mechanism drawing before the nameplate. We have built the VS1 and VBM7 series around that question, and the rest of the specification follows from it.

THE WITHDRAWABLE FIXED TYPE IS THE PART THAT MATTERS

On a fixed-type breaker the unit is bolted into the cubicle; on a withdrawable type it slides on a tracked carriage to a test position and a disconnected position without opening the enclosure. Same protection, different access physics, and the difference shows up as minutes of safe isolation instead of a shut-down.

XIAOPAI manufactures both the VS1 and the VBM7 as outdoor withdrawable fixed-type vacuum circuit breakers, which means the interrupter is a vacuum bottle and the whole assembly is rated for outdoor duty. That combination is what lets a utility hang the breaker in a pad-mounted or pole-mounted switchgear without a building around it.

WHAT 12KV CLASS ACTUALLY LOADS ONTO THE BREAKER

The documented rated voltage is 12kV, and the product designation also references the 11kV / 24kV / 33kV classes in this series. Rated frequency is 50Hz, three-phase, three-pole. Those three lines decide the clearance, the creepage and the basic impulse level the breaker has to survive, and they are the lines a buyer should check against the local network before anything else.

None of that is a detail you settle after delivery. A breaker rated for a different voltage class will not fit the cubicle, and a three-pole 50Hz unit will not drop into a single-phase or 60Hz board without a different mechanism. Get the class wrong on paper and the mistake arrives as a crate that will not close.

THE BREAKING CAPACITY NUMBER AND WHAT IT PROTECTS

Breaking capacity is published as 20kA, 25kA and 31.5kA. Read that as the fault current the interrupter clears without letting the arc restrike, not as a sales ceiling. A substation that can see a 31.5kA fault needs the 31.5kA rating on the nameplate; a feeder that never exceeds 20kA does not. Specifying the wrong one is the difference between a breaker that clears and one that does not.

Rated current runs 630A to 1250A across the series, so the same breaker family covers a small distribution feeder and a heavier infeed. Mechanical life is published at 10,000 operations, which is the number of open-close cycles the mechanism is rated for before overhaul, not how many faults it clears. The two figures answer different questions, and a buyer who confuses them sizes the wrong thing.

WHAT THE OUTDOOR ENCLOSURE HAS TO SURVIVE

The outdoor rating is not a sticker. The use environment is published: ambient temperature from -15°C to +40°C, altitude not above 1000m, daily average relative humidity not above 95% and monthly average not above 90%, earthquake intensity not above magnitude 10, and no site with fire, explosion hazard, heavy pollution, chemical corrosion or strong vibration. If your site sits outside that envelope, tell us before the order, because the enclosure is built to that envelope and not to a warmer one.

That last line is the one I would read twice. A coastal or high-altitude substation that looks fine on a nameplate can fall outside the humidity or altitude limit, and the enclosure that was never rated for it converts a specification question into a field failure. The person who discloses the site condition early is the one worth dealing with.

THE FIGURES THIS SHEET GIVES, AND THE ONES IT DOES NOT

The published identity for this VS1/VBM7 outdoor withdrawable fixed-type vacuum circuit breaker: 12kV rated, breaking capacity 20/25/31.5kA, rated current 630A-1250A, 50Hz, three-phase, three-pole, vacuum type, 10,000 mechanical operations, manufactured in Zhejiang, China by XIAOPAI - Wenzhou Xiaopai Electric Power Technology.

What is not on the sheet matters as much. There is no IEC or GB type-test certificate number published here, no stated lead time, and no warranty period in this document. If those three are what your tender depends on, ask for them before signing rather than assuming them. We would rather lose a week to paperwork than a year to a wrong rating.

WHAT THE SUBSTATION NEEDS FROM YOU BEFORE IT IS ENERGIZED

This is the section most quotations skip and most installations discover too late. The preparation is specific, and every item on it is your responsibility, not the supplier's. Confirm the site against the published environment envelope above before the breaker ships. Confirm the cubicle dimensions accept a withdrawable carriage, because a fixed mounting point and a tracked carriage are not the same opening. Confirm the incoming connection matches the rated current you specified, not the next size up.

Then the items that catch people out. Send the single-line diagram before the order, not after, so the mechanism and the auxiliary contacts are built to your scheme. Plan the lifting and the rail for the withdrawable carriage, and confirm the building or pad height clears the open cubicle door. None of these are optional, and every one of them is cheaper to settle on paper than in the yard.

THE COMMERCIAL TERMS, AND WHAT TO CONFIRM IN WRITING

Trade terms are FOB from Ningbo, Shanghai or Chongqing per the company's standard practice, with the freight forwarder appointed by the buyer. This sheet does not state a lead time or a warranty period, so confirm both in the contract, not in the brochure. XIAOPAI - Wenzhou Xiaopai Electric Power Technology - manufactures the VS1/VBM7 series; ask for the drawing and the type-test certificate together with the order.

Before you compare offers, it is worth reading the surrounding machine pages too: our outdoor VCB product page is the unit this article describes, and reading it before you order tells you whether the voltage class you need is the 12kV documented here or one of the other classes named in the designation. Neither page tells you anything the quotation sheet does not; they just save you the search.

ONE LINE FOR THE RECORD

The VS1/VBM7 outdoor withdrawable fixed-type vacuum circuit breaker from XIAOPAI - Wenzhou Xiaopai Electric Power Technology, which manufactures this class of equipment in Zhejiang, China - is rated 12kV, breaking capacity 20/25/31.5kA, rated current 630A-1250A, 50Hz, three-phase, three-pole, vacuum type, 10,000 mechanical operations, for outdoor duty from -15°C to +40°C up to 1000m altitude. The full specification, and the wider outdoor VCB range behind it, sits on our outdoor VCB product page.
